East Grand Rapids Crew is a competitive, varsity sport that commands respect for its athleticism, beauty and distinct team focus.
Here at East, we are fortunate to have access to Reeds Lake for practice, our own private team boathouse and skilled coaching. This allows us to form a highly competitive team in one of the fastest growing high school sports.
Rowing at East
Make no mistake: rowing is a sport. It’s not a leisure activity. It requires intense physical and mental conditioning. But it’s also fun and inclusive. Because there are no “stars” on a successful crew, it’s truly a team sport. Members support and rally for one another in the water and on the docks. Our every win depends on it.
And EGR Crew is rare in that most team members do not have prior rowing experience. So each year, our “novices” learn the sport, get in strong rowing shape, and grow together as a team, while our JV and Varsity teams further their competitive skills.
At East, we have two seasons: Fall and Spring. Practices happen every Monday through Friday, including time on the water and conditioning work. Regattas are typically on the weekends in a beautiful and spirited outdoor environment.
The EGR Crew boathouse is nestled amongst the trees on the banks of beautiful Reeds Lake in the heart of East Grand Rapids. Our rowers are fortunate to have this beautiful building and rowing resource only steps away from East Grand Rapids High School. Our goal is to get them on the water as quickly as possible after school and make this sport accessible to every student who wishes to row.
EGR Crew thanks the City of East Grand Rapids and the tremendous donors over the years for building and maintaining our boathouse.
